School Governor
Location: All WPT Schools
Volunteer as a School Governor Today!!
We’re Wickersley Partnership Trust (WPT) - a multi-academy trust with eight primary schools, five secondary schools, one sixth form and one Central Team under our umbrella.
We’re dotted across Rotherham, South Yorkshire with one school based in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire.
At WPT, students are at the heart of everything we do, and we aim to send all children into an ever-changing world, able and qualified to play their full part in it. To give them the best educational experience possible, we recognise the importance of investing in and supporting our colleagues.
About the Role
The Governing Body meets three times per year (once per term) for our full Governing Body meetings and then a further two times per year for committee meetings. These meetings are held in school (or within one of the Trust’s premises) or online after school and you will receive meeting materials in advance of the meetings. Governors may be asked to make up a panel for a variety of meetings and are also welcomed in to school for a whole host of events, performances and educational visits.
The school’s Governing Body is responsible for:
* Overseeing the schools Senior Leadership Team and holding them to account for the quality of education
* Having oversight of the school’s financial performance
* Ensuring the long-term plans for the school are within the pupil’s best interest
The role of a Governor:
As a Governor, you will make sure the school effectively carries out the duties referred above. You will also play a vital role in bringing a parental/community perspective to the table, however, this would not make you a “speaker” for the parent body.
To be a Governor you should have:
* A strong commitment to the role and to improving outcomes for children
* Good interpersonal skills, curiosity, and a willingness to learn and develop new skills
* The specific skills required to make sure the governing body delivers effective governance
Join our Team and make a difference!
If you become a Governor, you will help to mould the future of local young people, all whilst developing your own skills too.School Governors need to reflect & represent the local community. The body needs a range of knowledge, skills and experience; so, whatever your background, career or age, your contribution will be invaluable.
To apply please submit you application form through our online recruitment portal, stating which schools you would be interested in volunteering with as a Governor.
