SALARY: TLR2B

CONTRACT: Temporary Maternity Cover until 31st Dec 2026

About the Role

As Assistant Director for English, you will play a pivotal role in the strategic leadership of the Trust, working closely with the Director and Deputy Director to elevate student outcomes. This is not just about managing a department; it is about influencing the curriculum and pedagogy for thousands of students. You will lead on key initiatives—specifically the promotion of reading, vocabulary, and literacy—ensuring these are embedded across all subject areas. By combining data-driven insights with a passion for English, you will mentor staff, refine teaching practices, and help build a culture where innovation and consistency go hand in hand.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Support the development and implementation of strategic plans for English across the Trust, ensuring alignment with our vision and values.

  • Curriculum & Pedagogy: Contribute to the development of a rigorous and inclusive English curriculum, leading specific projects to improve the quality of teaching and ensuring students are engaged in meaningful learning experiences.

  • Literacy Focus: Support the Director in the promotion of reading, vocabulary, and literacy across all subject areas, ensuring these key elements are embedded within teaching practices.

  • Staff Development: Assist in the management and development of a high-performing staff team, working closely with Subject Directors to provide mentoring, coaching, and professional development.

  • Data & Improvement: Use data to track student progress, identifying underperforming areas and leading the development of action plans to address gaps in attainment.

  • Quality Assurance: Monitor the effectiveness of policies and practices through lesson observations and reviews, providing recommendations for improvement based on evidence.

  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with senior leaders across all schools to ensure shared goals are pursued and that resources are used efficiently to support high-quality teaching.

  • Safeguarding: Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with Trust safeguarding, health and safety, and equality policies.
